Sep 10, 1998: -- Four Signed --

The Dolphins signed 3 new players to the practice squad yesterday and moved one from the practice squad to the regular roster. WR Nate Jacquet, who was picked up by the Dolphins this summer after being waived by the Colts, was signed to the regular roster from the practice squad.

The coaches reportedly like what they've seen from Jacquet in the short time he's been on the practice squad and he may get a chance to play this weekend on special teams against the Bills.

For the practice squad, the team signed RB James Bostic, T Matt Reem and WR Antwuan Wyatt.

Bostic, at 5'11" and 225 pounds, was signed to take Ray Nealy's place and give the practice squad a big running back who can act as the scout teams' substitute for the big backs that the Dolphins will be facing over the next 2 weeks. He was originally a 3rd round draft pick of the Rams in 1994 and spent some time with the Packers in 1995 and 96, before being waived last year.

Reem was originally signed by the Vikings in 1996 as an undrafted rookie free agent and was waived that year. Then he spent some time with the Redskins and finally ended up on the St. Louis roster this summer, before getting waived.

Wyatt was a 6th round pick by the Eagles in 1997 and was expected to be their primary punt and kickoff returner before tearing his ACL in the season opener last year. He was waived by the Eagles this summer.

My Comments:

Nothing too exciting here. Jacquet has some talent and can run, but probably won't be making any huge plays in the near future.

The other three guys are nothing special, with the possible exception of Wyatt. Apparently, the torn ACL he suffered last year slowed him down enough that the Eagles thought they couldn't use him, but if he can recover this year, he might turn out to be decent return man.

I'm a little surprised that the Dolphins didn't sign Copeland or Harper after the raves that they both got in workouts. Well, at least Harper got raves - nothing much was said about Copeland.

Is JJ really that enthralled with Gadsden? Certainly, that catch that he made against the Colts was a special effort, but it was just one catch. Well, you never really know just what JJ is thinking and he's probably not going to tell us.
