There was a little bit of good news after the loss against
Indianapolis yesterday - it looks like defensive back Calvin Jackson
will be ok.
Jackson was carted off the field with his head and neck
imobilized after he suffered a neck injury on a hit late in the game.
He was trying to tackle Colts' running back Clif Groce and hit his
head against Groce. He lay motionless on the turf after the play and
was strapped to a board and carried off the field.
He was take to a local hospital where X-rays showed no
fractures. He had full mobility and feeling in all his limbs and his
condition was diagnosed as a neuroprexia, or injury to the integrity
of a nerve in the neck. This condition is also known as a "stinger".
Stingers can be painful and cause numbness or even temporary
paralysis. However, they are not dangerous to his long term health
and he should recover completely. He may be limited in practice for
the next few weeks, but he might be healthy enough to play on Monday
night against the Patriots.
He spent the night in the hospital in Indianapolis, but should
return to Miami today.
My Comments:
The scariest thing in football is to see a player lying
motionless on the turf after a play and then carted off the field
strapped to a backboard and immobilized. You can only hold your
breath and pray that he recovers from whatever it was that happened to
him.
Calvin Jackson is a lucky fellow today, although he may not
feel that way and I think we can all breath a sigh of relief that he
is well.
