Oct 10, 1997: -- Perriman Flunks Physical - Will Have Surgery --
The Dolphins announced yesterday that wide receiver Brett
Perriman had flunked his physical with the Dolphins and will need to
have surgery on his knee. The surgery is scheduled for today and will
be performed on his right knee to remove some calcium deposits.
This knee is the same knee that Perriman injured in 1995, when
he tore the posterior cruciate ligament. He also suffered what was
believed to be a sprained knee against the Seahawks this year.
If the surgery is successful and there is no more damage to
the knee than the calcium deposits already discovered, then Perriman
will be out for two weeks. The earliest he would return would be
against the Bears.
If, on the other hand, he is more seriously injuried than has
been thought, he may not play for the Dolphins at all this year. His
contract is contingent on him passing his physical and if he can't
recover from the surgery quickly enough, the Dolphins may just void
his contract and dump him.
My Comments:
I see that the Dolphins are becoming more efficient in the
injury department. Instead of having the players get injured once
they sign with the team, they just sign them up injured. That will
save a lot of time and energy.
Forgive me for being so cynical, but I'm getting so tired of
reading about injuries that it seems to have brought out the worst in
me. Perhaps it's his knee injury that's been keeping him from being
effective this year, but if that's the case, then there isn't much
chance that Perriman would be that effective this year.
A victory over the Jets will cure that cynicism....
