Sep 08, 1997: -- Pritchett Out 2-3 Months --
Fullback Stanley Pritchett had surgery on his knee last night
and will miss 2 to 3 months of the season. The surgery was to repair
damage to a part of the knee called the medial retinaculum. It is a
band of connective tissue that attaches to parts of the knee joint,
including the patellar tendon.
If Pritchett's prognosis is for a 2-3 month recovery, the odds
are that he will not be placed on injured reserve at this time. In
his absence, Dewayne Dotson will move into the starting position at
fullback.
The Dolphins also waived punter Kyle Richardson today, whom
they had signed as an interim replacement for John Kidd while Kidd
recovered from a hamstring problem. Richardson had a decent game
yesterday against the Oilers, but did nothing spectacular enough to
justify keeping him.
My Comments:
The loss of Pritchett will be bad for the already sad running
game. He was a key element in blocking for the running backs.
Dewayne Dotson did do a good job blocking during the
preseason, so it will be interesting to see if Dotson, a converted
linebacker, can fill in and do a good job.
Now that Richardson has been waived, the Dolphins have a
roster spot open. Odds are that JJ will sign a fullback to back up
Dotson - possibly Ray Nealy.
