Sep 24, 1996: -- Marino Out 3-4 Weeks --

DOLPHINS NEWS:

The Dolphins announced this afternoon that Dan Marino had fractured his ankle in the game against the Colts last night and will be sidelined for 3 to 4 weeks. With the bye week coming up, Marino will most likely miss the Seattle and Buffalo games.

Originally diagnosed as a sprain, the damage to Marino's foot was revealed to be a non-displaced fracture by an MRI taken on Tuesday. Marino will immediately begin a course of rehabilitation and will most probably be ready for the game against the Eagles in Philadelphia on October 20th.

Right now, Bernie Kosar is the designated backup to Marino, but Craig Erickson has considerably more mobility than Kosar and a stronger arm. Plus, he now has 2 weeks to practice with the offense.

In other news, the Baltimore Ravens announced today that they have signed tight end Eric Green to a contract for undisclosed terms. However, rumors have the contract being in the neighborhood of $750K per year.

My Comments:

If the Dolphins can weather Marino's injury and come out of it with a 1-1 record, that will be good enough. What will be interesting to see is if JJ decides to go with Erickson against the Seahawks. As I noted above, Erickson is more mobile and has a stronger arm that Kosar. He lacks Bernie's experience, but that experience didn't help Kosar avoid the Colts' rush on Monday night.

As far as Eric Green is concerned - well, so much for him wanting to prove something in Miami. He's not work $750 K and the Ravens will find that out.
