Dolphins News: 'Phins Sign McIver; Waive Planansky, Kushner
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Aug 13, 1996: -- 'Phins Sign McIver; Waive Planansky, Kushner --
ESPNet is reporting today that the Dolphins have signed
offensive lineman Everett McIver. McIver played the last 2 seasons
with the New York Jets, getting little playing time. He spent the off
season starting at left tackle for the London Monarchs of the WLAF.
He played his college ball at Elizabeth City State and is another big
offensive lineman, standing 6'6" and weighing in at 315 lbs.
Also in the news, the Dolphins waived punter Bill Kushner, who
was signed in the off-season to compete with Joe Kidd. Also waived
was tight end Joe Planansky, who spent last season on the practice
squad for the Dolphins.
My Comments:
The Dolphins are pretty thin on the offensive line, as
evidenced by the fact that Keith Sims was playing right guard on
Sunday. Obviously, McIver was picked up to fill a vacancy.
Kidd has played well enough that Kushner became expendable,
but the waiver of Planansky saddens me a little. Not because I think
he would have been a great tight end, but because he was such a long
shot. Somehow I always feel a little worse when the real longshots
are cut.
