Dolphins News: Cross Placed On PUP

*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***

Jul 21, 1996: -- Cross Placed On PUP --

The Dolphins announced that they have placed Jeff Cross on the "Physically Unable to Perform (PUP)" list yesterday with recurrent back pain. Cross has aggravated a degenerative disk in his lower back.

The Dolphins will speak with Cross's doctor before coming to any conclusions, but the worst case scenario would involve surgery to repair the disk. If Cross does have surgery, he will be out for about 8 weeks.

If Cross is still on the PUP list on August 25th, the Dolphins must decide whether or not to place him on the reserve PUP list, to activate him or to place him on injured reserve. If he is placed on the reserve PUP list, he would have to remain inactive for the first 6 games, but could return after that. If he is placed on injured reserve, he is ineligible for the remainder of the season.

My Comments:

And the injuries begin. With the increased hitting in JJ's training camp, we're going to have to expect a number of minor injuries and perhaps some major ones. This one, however, began several weeks ago, before training camp, when Cross first complained about his back to his doctor.
