Dolphins News: Update for Tuesday, June 11th

*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***

Jun 11, 1996: -- Update for Tuesday, June 11th --

Defensive lineman Shane Burton has been moved from the defensive line to the offensive line after the completion of last week's mini-camp. Burton was the Dolphins' 8th draft pick this year in the 5th round.

Burton (6'5", 300 lbs) does have experience on the offensive line, having played tight end very early in his career. He had a lot of competition on the defensive line and Dolphins offensive line coach Larry Beightol is said to have been "salivating" over the prospect of getting Burton on his side of the ball.

In other news, Keith Jackson's agent Gary Wichard has said publicly that he would very much like Keith to be back in aqua and orange this season. In a public statement earlier this week, Wichard has pointed out that the receiving averages of both Irving Fryar and Keith Byars were better when Jackson was the starter in Miami than last year, when Green came to town.

Jimmy Johnson has also said that he'd like to have Keith back in Miami, but that his asking price was too high right now.

My Comments:

The move of Burton to the offensive line isn't all that surprising, considering what he was up against and the fact that he only runs about a 5.2 in the 40. That puts him in the offensive lineman class, especially on defense where speed is valued.

The return of Keith Jackson is possible, but not likely. Jackson would probably have to accept a contract like Jack Del Rio's that was short on base salary and long on incentives and it's not likely that Jackson will take such a deal.
