Dolphins News: News Update...

*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***

Apr 02, 1996: -- News Update... --

The Dolphins announced on Saturday that they have signed four free agents: Punter Bill Kushner, Kicker Joe Nedney, and wide receivers Walter Smith and A.C. Tellison.

All of these players are relatively obscure and doubtless signed for minimum salaries. Kusher is a former Boston College Player and Tellison attended the University of Miami. Nedney has signed briefly with at least on other NFL team. Other than that, I have no information about these players.

Also in the news, the Miami Herald reported last Wednesday that Bernie Kosar was in the process of negotiating a 3 year contract with the Dolphins to remain as backup for Dan Marino. Supposedly, both sides are fairly confident that a deal will be struck in the next few weeks.

And last, but certainly not least, there are a variety of reports stating that Dan Marino is in the process of negotiating a contract extention of either 3 or 4 years (depending on who does the reporting), with a signing bonus of $5-6 million. However, the extention is expected to reduce his salary cap impact this year.

My Comments:

It's that time of year when various players you've never heard of get signed to fill in roster spots. It's doubtful that any of the players will be on the roster in September, but for the time being, at least, they are Dolphins.

I think that the signing of Kosar is probably a good thing for the team. Even though Bernie's arm isn't what it used to be, his brains and experience can only benefit the team.
