Dolphins News: Gray, Albright on Injured Reserve
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Nov 16, 1995: -- Gray, Albright on Injured Reserve --
The Dolphins made it official last night when they placed
both starting offensive guard Chris Gray and reserve tackle Ethan
Albright on injured reserve. This means that both players will be
lost to the Dolphins for the rest of the season.
In other news, the Dolphins officially announced (to no one's
surprise) that Louis Oliver would start in place of Gene Atkins on
Monday against the 49ers.
Gray suffered ligament damage after he sprained his left ankle
in the Patriots game on Sunday and is scheduled to have surgery on it
on Friday. Albright tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left
knee, also during the Patriots game.
To take their roster spots, the Dolphins have signed Offensive
lineman Gene McGuire and tight end Frank Wainwright. Bert Weidner will start
for the injured Chris Gray and Tom McHale has apparently taken over the
long-snapping duties for Albright.
McGuire, listed as 6'2" and 284 lbs, started his career in
1993 with the Bears, where he played in 9 games for them. Last year,
McGuire was waived by the Cardinals in training camp and didn't play
with any team. This year, the Packers waived him out of training
camp. In college, McGuire played center for Notre Dame.
Frank Wainwright played with the New Orleans Saints
from 1991 to 1993. He went to the University of of North Colorado and
is listed as being 6'3" and 245 lbs.
Wainwright was signed by the Denver Broncos as a free
agent in April of this year, but was waived in August and then picked
up by the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles waived Wainwright on
October 25th.
My Comments:
The injury bug strikes again. I don't think that Gray will be
missed in the passing game, but he will be missed when the Dolphins
try to run the football. He was a much better pulling guard than
Weidner.
I don't much information about the new guys, but obviously
they're nothing special. However, I'm a little confused about
Wainwright. He's a tight end and I have no idea why the Dolphins need
another tight end.
