Jul 11, 1995: -- Correction to Ricky Sanders Information --

Yesterday, I reported that Ricky Sanders had signed with the Dolphins. However, this turns out to have been incorrect. Sanders had apparently agreed to a 2 year deal, but had not signed a contract.

Sanders is expected to sign that contract this afternoon.

Also in the news, the Dolphins have re-signed quarterback Doug Pederson to a contract for undisclosed terms. Pederson, you may recall, was taken by the Carolina Panthers in the expansion draft, but was released several days ago.

The Dolphins are apparently very close to signing first round pick Billy Milner. The Miami Herald is reporting that Milner and the Dolphins are about $75,000 apart in salary negotiations and that both Milner and 4th round pick Pete Mitchell should be signed by the time training camp opens on Monday.

The Herald is also reporting that, in order to trim the salary cap, the Dolphins have approached Keith Sims, Bryan Cox, Irving Fryar and Bernie Kosar about contract extensions. Sims is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent after this season and is apparently looking to make around $3 million per year, while Bryan Cox is apparently asking for around $2.3 million.

Special thanks go to Dave Poland for pointing out the error in my reporting and to PJ Bimonte for supplying me with the correct information. It seems that I was a bit premature in my reporting. I hate it when that happens.

For some odd reason, I'm glad that Doug Pederson is back. It's not that he's that great, it's just that I happen to think that it's nice to see him back. I can't explain it.

It will be very nice to have Milner and Mitchell signed by the time training camp starts. Getting the draftees signed is always a a good thing for them and for the team. Remember Ronnie Woolfork?

It appears that contract extensions are now the norm for most teams in the age of free agency and the Dolphins would be fools not to persue them. It remains to be seen how they will turn out.
