Dolphins' News: Scott Miller Out For season
*** DOLPHINS NEWS ***
Jun 03, 1995: -- Scott Miller Out For season --
ESPN reported on Friday that Miami wide receiver Scott Miller
will be out for the season with a torn anterior cruciate ligament in
his left knee.
Miller, in his fifth year with the Dolphins, was the backup punt
returner for the team.
In other news, the Miami Herald reported on Tuesday, May 30th,
that defensive coordinator Tom Olivadotti has said that he expects
Chris Singleton to be well enough to participate in training camp in
July. There was a lot of concern about Singleton after he had ankle
surgery in May. If Singleton is not ready for the season, Dwight
Hollier will start in his place.
Also, the Dolphins have waived rookie offensive lineman Gary
Needham and free agent defensive tackle Craig Veasey was signed by
the Houston Oilers.
My Comments:
I've always liked Miller and I'll miss him in the lineup, even
though he's never contributed a whole lot. He was an adequate punt
returner until OJ McDuffie showed up, but I don't think that he ever
got to play as much wide receiver as he should have. Last year, he
caught 6 passes for 94 yards and 1 touchdown.
The Dolphins had signed Miller to a 3 year deal this spring, but
he was the fifth wide receiver behind Fryar, McDuffie, Clark and Hill
and, as such, he probably won't be missed.
However, his injury does open up a roster spot for one of the
promising rookies.
The news about Singleton is good, although it's hard to know how
much work he'll need to get back to full speed.
Craig Veasey is going back to Houston, where the Dolphins
acquired him. Last year, Veasey got 2.5 sacks and rotated with Chuck
Klingbeil and Tim Bowens on passing downs, but has never been
particularly exciting.
