Dolphins' News: Eric Green signs with 'Phins!!

Mar 11, 1995: -- Eric Green signs with 'Phins!! --
Yesterday, the Dolphins signed former Pittsburgh Steeler tight end
Eric Green to a 6 year deal worth a reported $12 million. Green, a
Pro-Bowl selectee this past season, has been made the highest paid
tight end in the league by the Dolphins.
The past season, he caught 46 passes for 618 yards and 4
touchdowns for the Steelers.
Initially selected in the first round of the 1990 draft, Green has
spent his entire career with the Steelers and has caught 198 passes
for 2,621 yards and 24 touchdowns, along with being selected to the
Pro-Bowl twice.
In other news, the Dolphins lost free agent running back Aaron
Craver to the Denver Broncos yesterday. The Broncos signed Craver to
a contract for undisclosed terms.
My Comments:
The signing of Green is something of a mystery to me. Granted,
he's a fine tight end and a good blocker, but the Dolphins have good
depth at tight end and Green may be something of a head case.
The only thing that I can figure is that the Dolphins want to beef
up their running game and hope that Green can add some blocking
without losing anything in the receiving corps.
Now we have to ask what is going to happen to Keith Jackson? Are
the Dolphins going to drop him? Is he going to perhaps be traded? Or
are the 'Phins just going to try and work the two of them into the
same offense? Perhaps they want to try a variation on the Charger's
two tight-end set.
The loss of Craver is a shame, but the Dolphins have good depth at
running back and Craver was never really a good fullback.
